Dr. Tanya Bhardwaj is an Assistant Professor of History at Thapar School of Liberal Arts and Sciences specializing in Ancient Indian History, Culture, and the intersection of Buddhism and science. With a Ph.D. from Amity Institute of Social Sciences, a Master's in Ancient Indian History, Culture and Archaeology from Panjab University, and a B.A. (Hons.) in History from the University of Delhi, they bring a rich interdisciplinary perspective to her work. Her doctoral research, "A Study of Science Through the Eyes of Buddhism," explores the fascinating connections between Buddhist philosophy and scientific thought. Buddhism contains a spirit congenial to the scientific outlook in its naturalism, empiricism, and reliance on experiential confirmation over dogma. Core teachings like impermanence and no-self seem to resonate with relativistic physics and insights from neuroscience.Practices like mindfulness meditation are now empirically studied for effects on health and cognition, revealing overlaps between ancient Buddhist techniques and modern psychology. Dr. Tanya’s expertise spans archaeology, cultural heritage, and the dynamic relationship between religion and science. Beyond academia, she has contributed valuable insights to NGOs, applying their knowledge to real-world challenges in cultural preservation and community development. As an educator and researcher, she is committed to fostering critical thinking, promoting cross-cultural understanding, and bridging the gap between ancient wisdom and modern scientific understanding. Her aspirations include developing innovative research methodologies, creating collaborative platforms for interdisciplinary dialogue, and inspiring the next generation of scholars to think beyond traditional academic boundaries.
