Hi! I am Dr Shivangi Narayan, Assistant Profesor, Sociology at TSLAS. I am primarily a tech anthropologist/sociologist but due to the interdisciplinary nature of my work, I also align myself with the area of ‘science and technology studies’. I am the author of the book “Predictive Policing and the Construction of the Criminal: An Ethnographic Study of Delhi Police” published by Palgrave Macmillan in 2023. I recently finished a three year project titled ‘Algorithmic Governance and Cultures of Policing - A Comparative Study of Brazil, India, Norway, Russia and South Africa’ where I undertook research into the use of video surveillance in North East Delhi and the role of tech private sector in governance. I have been published in both academic and popular forums and routinely take part in conferences, roundtables and workshops on technology/tech policy related topics. I am a recipient of both international and domestic grants. I have been awarded the ‘Early Career Researcher Award” by Surveillance Studies Network for my paper “CCTV and the Criminal City” published in 2023 in the Surveillance Studies Journal. I hold an MA, MPhil and PhD from Centre for Study of Social Systems, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi.
