Dr. Shah Khatoon received her PhD in Sociology from Jamia Millia Islamia, focusing on gender, power, and change in energy interventions in Ladakh, with a particular emphasis on understanding the gender-energy nexus. Her research examines the intersection of gender and sustainability within energy transitions, exploring how social structures influence access, agency, and empowerment in renewable energy initiatives.
She served as the Area Chair in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Woxsen University, Hyderabad, where she played a key role in curriculum development and academic leadership. Her specialization lies in Environmental Sociology, Rural Development, Gender and Development, and the Sociology of Technology.
Her research extends to themes of social and environmental sustainability, and she has contributed to both academic discourse and policy discussions on these topics. She has published in peer-reviewed journals and edited volumes, offering critical insights into the socio-technical dimensions of development.
With a commitment to experiential learning and field-based pedagogy, she brings a dynamic approach to engaging with pressing socio-environmental issues.
