Nava Nalanda Central Library

At the heart of the Thapar Institute campus, a place to read, research, collaborate and think.

Who we are

The five-storey, 7,182-square-metre building, finished in marble, red stone and wood, opens onto a 2,044-square-metre garden.

With seating for more than 1,000 readers, radiant cooling and natural light throughout, it is designed for long hours of focused work. Every corner of the library offers a place to sit, and the surrounding garden gives you somewhere to pause between chapters.

Beyond the collection, the library gives you the tools to find, borrow and use information quickly, and staff to help with your research.

What we do

A space designed for study

Every corner of the library offers a place to sit, and the surrounding garden gives you somewhere to pause between chapters.

Borrow and return in minutes

RFID security, self-check-in stations and self-service book-drop kiosks make borrowing and returning quick and simple, with no waiting in line.

Spaces for working together

Thirteen air-conditioned group discussion rooms, each equipped with an LED screen and projector, support group projects and presentation practice. An 80-seat seminar hall with a full sound system hosts workshops, talks and orientation sessions.

Find what you need in one place

Use the Web OPAC to search books, e-books and periodicals by author, title, subject or keyword. You can also browse new arrivals, reserve titles, recommend purchases, and view your borrowing history and fines.

Read in print, online or on Kindle

Alongside the print collection, you can access more than 200,000 e-books, including over 1,000 titles on Kindle. Kindle devices and the Kindle reading app are available for loan at the library.

Explore research and learning resources

The TIET Digital Repository provides full-text access to theses and dissertations from all Ph.D. and postgraduate programmes, as well as institute news clippings. The Publication Database tracks faculty research, with publication counts, impact factors and links to full text.

Learn with Swayam-NPTEL

As a local Swayam-NPTEL chapter, the library hosts more than 5,400 hours of NPTEL video lectures across 21 disciplines, with registration for certificate courses open year-round. Most e-resources are available off campus through remote login.

Get research support

Library staff are available to help with subject-specific research, arrange interlibrary loans for materials not in the collection, and provide photocopying services on the fourth floor.
