Exploring the Dynamics of Policy and Policymaking: TSLAS Organizes Panel Discussion

"Thinking Policy," a research and professional panel examining current policymaking and employment opportunities in the policy sector, was organized by Thapar School of Liberal Arts and Sciences (TSLAS). The event was a part of a series that highlighted various career paths and promoted the school's new Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE) curriculum.

 

The panel examined how public policies are conceived, evaluated, and implemented, while addressing the practical, political, and ethical dimensions of policymaking. Speakers discussed the interdisciplinary nature of policy research and emphasised the skills and knowledge required for careers in governance, public policy, research, and data-driven decision-making.

 

The discussion featured Jonathan Kamkhajii, Post-Doctoral Researcher at the Florence School of Transnational Governance; Akashmegh Sharma, Chief of Staff for DataDelta, IDinsight; and Dominic Jarkey, Senior R Programmer at YouGov. Drawing on their professional experiences, the panellists shared insights into policy analysis, research methodologies, and the growing role of data in shaping public decisions.

 

Students and faculty participated in the interactive session, gaining an overview of contemporary policy challenges and the expanding career opportunities available in policymaking, governance, and related fields.
