Navtej Johar Leads Conversation on Art, Performance, and Research Communication at TSLAS

The Thapar School of Liberal Arts and Sciences (TSLAS) hosted a session titled “Communicating Research through Art and Performance” on 22 February 2025, featuring Navtej Johar, Bharatanatyam exponent, yoga practitioner, teacher, and activist. The session explored the role of artistic practices in shaping and communicating research narratives.

 

The event was organised as part of the ongoing Ethnography and Migration Research Lab, jointly coordinated by Dr. Rama Srinivasan and Dr. Jayaprakash Mishra, with support from GIZ. The session brought together students, faculty members, and researchers to reflect on the intersections of art, embodied knowledge, and academic inquiry.

 

Through his engagement with performance and movement, Johar highlighted the potential of artistic expression as a medium for communicating complex ideas and lived experiences. The session encouraged participants to consider interdisciplinary approaches to research dissemination and the ways in which creative practices can enrich academic conversations.

 

The programme reinforced TSLAS’s commitment to fostering interdisciplinary dialogue by bringing together diverse perspectives from the arts, humanities, and social sciences.
