Panel Discussion on Investigative Journalism, Digital Rights, and Technology at TSLAS

A panel discussion titled "Investigating Power" was conducted by Thapar School of Liberal Arts and Sciences (TSLAS) to explore the increasing impact of digital technology, corporate and state power, and surveillance in modern society. The event brought together academics and professionals who work in the fields of digital rights, technology, law, and investigative journalism.

 

The discussion explored how investigative reporting and interdisciplinary research contribute to tracking, exposing, and challenging systems of power in the digital age. Panellists highlighted the implications of emerging technologies for privacy, accountability, and democratic governance while reflecting on the evolving role of journalists, researchers, and civil society organisations

 

The panel featured Disha Verma, Tech+Society Fellow at the Centre for Digitalisation, AI and Society, Ashoka University; Philip Di Salvo, Senior Researcher and Lecturer at the University of St. Gallen; and Isha Suri, Research Lead at the Centre for Internet and Society (CIS).

 

The session also provided students with insights into research and career opportunities in investigative journalism, digital rights, and technology policy, while encouraging discussion on the challenges of ensuring transparency and accountability in an increasingly digital world.
